Today we're meeting again with our conference organizer, Susan Mohn, to explore George Timson and Ben Mehling's suggestion that we hold this conference in Medsphere's conference center in California instead of in Las Cruces. More soon.

We confirmed today that the dates for the Future of File Manager conference will be Wednesday, 30 March through 1 April, to accommodate George Timson's schedule. These will be three full days of discussion designed for members of the File Manager development team and other expert programmers to brainstorm the next five years or so of development for this crucial VISTA package. Travel days will be Tuesday, 29 March and Saturday, 2 April, although some of us may stay an extra day beyond that so we can have a social day after the meeting on Saturday.

The location will almost certainly be Carlsbad, California, at Medsphere's conference center, to make remote attendance easier for the couple of File Manager developers who absolutely can't travel then.

Over the next week Susan Mohn will be working with us and with Ben Mehling to pin down the hotel.

We are looking for organizations willing to sponsor breakfasts and lunches so the attendees can focus on the conference during the day. Sponsors will be identified in this thread on Mumpster and more prominently on the VISTA Expertise Network website and on signs at the event. If you are interested in sponsoring a meal to help support the File Manager team's work, please contact us either on this thread or at contact AT vistaexpertise DOT net.

We are also looking for sponsors for the event itself. We're discussing what extras sponsors would get in addition to a plan for the Future of Fileman. One thing could be attribution in the manuals and code. For example, "This version made possible through the generous support of X organization." Or something like that.

Any ideas?

We've had more trouble than we thought we would finding sponsors for this event, and unfortunately we're not in a position to pay for it out of pocket. We're therefore postponing the Future of Fileman conference until the fall.
