Hey everyone! My name is Kevin Lapin and I am currently located in Las Cruces, New Mexico. I am 22 years old and am a junior system administrator at Fourth Watch Software LC. I have the pleasure of working with and studying under the legendary LD "Gus" Landis (ldl) and the future of the computer world, David Wicksell (dlw) on a daily basis. If you don't know these guys, you should make an effort to meet them because they are geniuses.

I was born and raised in California. I don't have much of a trained computer background other than a few networking courses. I come from an athletic background as I played baseball in college and I love to play just about any other sport one can think of. Anyway, I was tired of the sports scene, limelight, and constant barrage of beautiful women in my California days so I decided to move into a career and get married so here I am in a quaint little town in New Mexico living the most quiet life possible.

Hope no one gets offended by this. Actually, no I don't.

Welcome to Mumpster, Kevin!

As Larry and David have no doubt already mentioned, not having a computer background is an advantage in learning MUMPS because (1) it was designed to be simple enough for doctor's to write their own software, though it has grown more complex over time, and (2) it's full of features that confound programmers used to other languages. In creating a language that's easy for nonprogrammers to learn, those sneaky guys at Massachusetts General Hospital inadvertently created a language that's also slightly harder for experienced programmers to learn. Those surprising and confounding features are invisible to nonprogrammers, who don't know that programming languages aren't supposed to work like that.
