At the time I'm writing this, I'm forty-four years old. For twenty-six of those years, I've been a mumpster and a VISTA hardhat; for those who can't do math, that's my entire adult life. Although I've studied computer science and programmed in many other languages, MUMPS and VISTA have been my entire career by choice. I realized early on that I could do more good with MUMPS and VISTA than with anything else I studied - and I'm voraciously curious so I study everything - more than with any of the many other career paths that have been open to me. I'm with MUMPS and VISTA for the long haul. I've rightly been accused of suffering from logorrhea, so I'll summarize my career as concisely as I can, in reverse order. With more than a little help from my friends at Fourth Watch Software, I started Mumpster. I am a Paideia instructor, founded the VISTA Expertise Network, cofounded WorldVistA, am vice-chair of the MUMPS Development Committee, and am a tier-five, master-hardhat VISTA developer who has implemented, programmed, written about, taught about, and strategized about VISTA for twenty-six years. At home I am a student of philosophy and morality, a role-playing gamer, an avid hiker, a Rock Band enthusiast, a husband, and an uncle. I live and work in Seattle, Washington, where my cats ply me shamelessly. If you want to know anything else about me, you'll have to ask me or figure it out for yourself. |

I've been off Mumpster for the last two weeks, but now I'm making a commitment to be on it every day unless I'm in the wilderness or otherwise offline. Further, I've begun talking with other experienced mumpsters about getting similar commitments so that students will always have some experienced folks to ask questions of here. We're going to turn this into a 24 x 7 x 365 educational resource for new MUMPS programmers. |
