Post subject:  Unit 1 - Lesson 4: Programming and Application Modes

This lesson simply outlines how to sign onto and off of your MUMPS system.

Read and understand the concepts of programmer and application mode. I will not spend time on this subject since it is implementation specific. At this point it is important to use programming mode. Refer to the respective MUMPS system documentation for signing into programming mode.

GT.M (copied from Bashkar's post):
For GT.M, please consider starting with the Acculturation Workshop - the fastest way to get going. Go to http://sourceforge.net/projects/fis-gtm/files then open the Acculturation Workshop folder and then the latest version (currently 0.6). It consists of a (small) zip file of instructions - open it in a directory and point your browser at the index.html file therein - and a large virtual machine disk image.

Exercise

Sign onto your respective MUMPS system in programming mode. Since bringing up an editor to create and edit MUMPS routines is very important to accomplishing the workshop exercises in this course, attempt to do that now. If you have not set up access to your editor from programming mode, please do so before proceeding.

Enter the HALT (or H) command to terminate the process.

This is the beauty of online manuals or documentation. You can just have a section for each of the MUMPS systems, there aren't that many.

You can even put them in the instructional text if you aren't lazy like me ;)

My approach to discussion material that enhances the instructional post is to put it in the first post that contains the instructional information. I'm actually building all this in a separate document that will be turned into an Instructors Guide and made available via the SVN once it is completed. Meanwhile, check the first post for the information.
