Post subject:  MUMPS Environment in Paideia

I recently received an account from Paideia. Got the SSH and terminaled in, and got the GMT prompt. I am also looking at two PDF guides and starting to work through them. Prior to getting this account, I was fortunate to find a DOS MUMPS interpreter, and using the "The MUMPS Programming Language" book (Kevin C. O'Kane) was able to go through the entire book and pick up a fair amount of MUMPS coding. The book refers to M2.

With the Pocket Guide and MUMPS_Programming_I pdf files I downloaded, I'm having trouble getting some basic things to work. For example, labels cause errors, and I can issue the line 'write "hello, world!" starting at column 1 rather than 2 - my DOS interpretor throws an error because the first column needs to be space (according to MUMPS), unless I have label.

1. What MUMPS version is the Paideia environment?
2. Are there any set up routines I need to perform prior to issueing MUMPS code?
3. Can we save MUMPS code to a file and run it? In the DOS interpreter, I can create a file of MUMPS code, and on the prompt, I issue do ^file.txt
4. MUMPS_Programming_I.pdf (that I downloaded) in many places are a series of periods - where code should be. Is there an more recent document?

Post subject:  MUMPS Environment in Paideia - got the information I needed.

Was able to find out a few things.

The Mumps distribution is GTM version 5.4.001. I found this on GT.M:
http://tinco.pair.com/bhaskar/gtm/doc/b ... index.html

It looks like when I write the code into files and then invoke the do ^filename (no extension - .m) it performs as it should.

The editor we use is zedit (operates much like vi in unix).

Now I'm off an ready. The URL is a good reference. For example, I was curious as to how MUMPS knows where the routines (files.m) are. I was ablt to call the $ZTRNLNM() function:

GTM>write $ZTRNLNM("gtmroutines")
/home/Robp/p /home/Robp/l /home/Robp/r /home/Robp/w /home/Robp/m

Regarding the download of MUMPS_Programming_I.pdf. I've gone through this a couple times and have no problem. I'm using Ubuntu 11.04 OS and FireFox 4.0.1 to download. I use Document Viewer 2.32.0 to view the .pdf file.

What are you using?
